What Is A Health Coach & Should You Have One?

integrative health Mar 23, 2023

Let me be upfront. This post is a little self indulgent as I talk about me and what I do, however, I think it is necessary to tell you a bit more about what I'm passionate about and what my scope of practice is.

After gradutating from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York back in March 2021, my official title is an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach (INHC). So what does that mean? If you look on Instagram, just about every second or third person is a coach. Life coach, business coach, authenticity coach, mindset coach...coaches are everywhere! But in my opinion, for good reason.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not here to talk badly about coaches, how could I? I am one! I see coaches as a great addition and resource to our super busy lives. It is such a wonderful industry to be able to help people transform their lives, why wouldn't you want to be a coach?

But back to what it actually means to be an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach...you might be wondering, what is 'integrative nutrition'? Well we know that food is a huge part of health, I mean I am obsessed with food and how it affects our mind and body. However, your health is determined by much more than just the food you eat.

You also need to nourish the areas of your life that feed your soul, such as fostering positive relationships, having a fulfilling career, and finding joy and purpose. This is what we refer to as integrative nutrition, the integration of all dimensions of your well-being to create true health and happiness.

In my role as a Health Coach, I guide clients to reach their health and wellness goals, whether that’s sleeping better, boosting energy, weight loss, stress management, and so much more. I believe in bio-individuality, which is the concept that we are all unique and have different needs, and what works for one person may not necessarily work for another.

My goal is to create a safe space for my clients to explore their health, facilitating behavior and lifestyle change that can be sustained for the long-term (no quick fix solutions here).

I love helping people discover which foods and lifestyle choices make them feel best. Most importantly, I believe in taking a holistic approach to health, focusing not just on food, but also all the other areas of life that can support and nourish overall health, such as career, spirituality, relationships, and environment.

These are all the things I was trained to do and what I believe in and through my study and time working with clients, I have developed a keen interest in 'food as medicine', living and eating for longevity and how to support gut health and the microbiome.

In our western society filled with ultra-processed foods, time poor and stressed out people, I believe it is time to help guide people back to the basics of living. Eating whole foods and what comes from nature. Spending quality time with loved ones, belonging to a community and finding and serving our purpose in life. These, in my opinion, are some of the keys to longevity.

This is why I created The Happy Republic. So I can help to cut through some of the wellness noise that is out there and help you get back to basics. To empower you with knowledge so you can make informed choices about your health and transform your life. So you don't have to be stressed out, tired and sick. You don't have to succumb to the chronic diseases that have become so common.

Rather you can take charge of your health and live the vibrant life you deserve.

As a Health Coach, I'm not here to tell you what to do or what to eat. Only you know you the best. My job is to be your guide on the side, empowering and supporting you to discover what works best for YOU. I've studied over 100 dietary theories and am constantly staying on top of the latest research and science that is published to give you the best information.

I believe when you know better, you can do better.

This is where I am coming from as a Health Coach and I encourage you to stick around. I'm only just getting started and I'm planning many more things to help you transform your health, not just with what you eat, but how you live.

That just leaves the one question I've posed in the title....should you have a Health Coach? If you ask me, it's a resounding YES! There are many ways to work with a Health Coach and if you stick around, I'll have a few different options of how you can work with me if you feel aligned with my mission. Even just being on my mailing list and part of my community will be a huge benefit to your health!

A Health Coach is a supportive wellness mentor and authority that can help guide you to feel your best through personalised food and lifestyle changes and support you to create and meet your goals. They are your accountability buddy to get the stuff done that you just don't get around to doing on your own.

Hence why I said I think they are a great resource to our busy lives. I mean, we all know what we should be doing, so why don't we just do it? Well...it's one of those things that is usually easier said than done. So if you want a wellness professional in your corner, guiding you and cheering you on, then you should consider working with a Health Coach.

I hope I've answered some of your questions about what a Health Coach is maybe helped you decide if working with one (or me) is right for you. As always, I'm just an email or Insta DM away if you have any questions. I'm always here to help!

Until next time,

Your Health Coach Bethany
